#212Import your menu
Bring your whole menu in at once
Fill one Excel file with your items, sizes, ingredients and recipes, then import it. You see every item before anything is saved, and nothing already in your shop is deleted.
1. Download the template
The template is a normal Excel file that also opens in Google Sheets. Its first sheet, How to fill this, says what goes where. The other three sheets come with a small example menu you can copy from and then replace.
2. Fill the Menu sheet
- One row per item. Name and Price are all it needs. Write prices as plain numbers, like 120.
- Category groups your items on the register: Coffee, Meals, Snacks.
- For sizes, put one row per size with the same Name, the size in Size, and its own price. Iced Latte Medium 120 and Iced Latte Large 140 become one Iced Latte with two sizes.
3. Ingredients and recipes (optional)
- Ingredients: what you buy and keep in stock. Unit is how you count it (kg, g, L, mL or piece), Cost per unit is what one unit costs you, Stock now is how much you have, and Low stock alert is when Ember POS warns you.
- Recipes: what goes into each item, one row per ingredient. Write the amount the way a cook says it, like 18 g of coffee beans or 150 mL of milk. Leave Size empty when every size uses the same amount, or name a size for that size's own recipe.
- With recipes in, every sale takes its ingredients out of stock and you see the real cost and profit of each item.
4. Import it
In Ember POS, open Menu & Recipes, press Import Menu, and choose your file. The next screen shows every item by category with its price and sizes, every ingredient, and anything that did not read right, by its row. Press Import when it looks right.
Coming from another POS?
You do not have to retype anything. In your old POS, open its back office on a computer, go to the list of items or products, and use Export or Download to save it as Excel or CSV. Choose that file in Import Menu exactly as it is: columns are read by their names, and sizes come in as sizes.
Questions
Will importing delete anything?
No. New items are added and items with the same name are updated. A blank cell leaves that detail as it is.
Can I import again after changing prices?
Yes. Change the prices in the file and import it again; the items are matched by name.
Can you set it up for me?
Yes, for free. Email a photo or a file of your menu to [email protected] and we put it in for you.
